Name : Russ Warin ex player then poacher turned gamekeeper who refereed for 15 years.
Understudy to Brian McClure as 1stXV touch judge.
Position: Backrow
Current Age:52
Occupation: Veterinary Sales.
Year joined York RUFC: 1989
How many years did/have you played for York RUFC: 4 seasons.
Previous Clubs - Bakewell Mannerians, Newcastle University.
Which Opposition Team Do You Remember Most: Don't remember too many as often concussed but happily played on as we were only allowed 1 sub then.
Playing Highlight: Winning NE2 League despite our touch judge the late, great Tony Williams disallowing Andy Brown's conversion v Novocastrians.
Reffing Highlight: Reffed at a higher level than I played, had a few level 4 games. Only resorted to 2 red cards in 15 years, 1 of which was to York's Jim Dunwell for over exuberant rucking.
Most Amusing Moment - Tour to North Wales, I was injured so took no kit and drunk rather a lot in Wrexham, then at RAF Valley, (probably with Smiler) only then to be told they had no referee. I was volunteered for my second ever game and was too drunk to explain my decisions, York just won and the home team thought I was the best referee they had had for years. Rather worrying!
