A Chance To Meet.....

Rob Long1 Feb 2021 - 08:07

Dick Hepworth - former York RUFC player.

Name: Dick Hepworth

Position: Tight Head Prop.

Current Age: 64

Occupation : Retired

Year Joined York RUFC: 1982

How many years have you/did you play for York RUFC: Several retirements, finally stopped playing 2009, I think my last game was playing with Ben at Selby, bah hum bug -uncontested scrums. So that is 27 years.

Previous Clubs: Wath Upon Dearne, Askham Bryan College, York RI, Guisborough, and Rowntrees.

Playing Highlight: My first game of senior rugby; Geoff Scherdell at Wath, saying to the other team be careful with the lad, it’s his first game, I was 16, how times have changed.
After this, the privilege of playing at York.

Which Opposition Team Do You Remember Most: Pocklington, under York RI flood lights, always very hard, the picture of Dobbin shaking hands with, I think Kitey. Very savage pair.

Most Amusing/Off-field Playing Highlight: Either Jackman or Stevo, laid out, at Workington on tour, with Pernod and Black running of out their nose.

Who is the best player you have played with? Toss up between Browny or Stevo. Browny’s kicking and Steve’s speed.
