Remembering Martin Abel

It is with great sadness to report that Martin Abel passed away on Wednesday morning in York Hospital.

He had been wheelchair bound for a number of years but that didn't stop him from adding his formidable voice in support of the club.

Martin was a true stalwart of York RUFC, from a feisty back row forward in his playing days, to a first class coach on the field and a long time supporter who just loved his time down at Clifton Park. He had an ample thirst which enabled the lubrication of his tonsils whilst heatedly discussing the pros and cons of the days' Rugby in the clubhouse.

At his own bequest, there will be a family only gathering and in time a suitable occasion when we can raise a glass in remembrance of Martin and the life he lived.

Our love and thoughts are very much with Paula, Matthew and all the extended family in their loss.
