After winning the toss, York kicked off and dominated possession for the first quarter but with good defence from Roundhegians only managed to cross the line once with a well taken try by Dawson Spence. From the restart York again camped in the Roundhegians 22 and came up against solid defence but Toby Atkin added a penalty to take the score to 8-0. Roundhegians managed to get good possession from their restart and gained a penalty in the ruck. From this they kicked into the corner and scored from a well-managed maul. With 5 minutes remaining in the first half York again went on the attack with the forwards winning clean ball for a well worked move through the backs, resulting in a selfless pass from Henry Wardman putting Toby Look in to score on the stroke of half time.
Roundhegians came back strongly after the break and scored again from another maul making the score 13-10 with a nervous 10 minutes to go. York sensibly opted to keep the ball in hands from a number of penalties and broke out strongly with Man of the Match Robert Cograve making a huge impact through the centre, eventually leading to Spence’s well taken second Try.
The Final score came with 3 minutes to go after solid rucking from York saw hooker Harry Savage pick and go to score in the corner.
In the previous rounds of the competition York have beaten Old Rishworthians (50-0), Old Brodleians (55-10), Hullensians (30-10), Sandal (24-10) and Sheffield (34-0).
Lead Coach John Atkin said: “This is an amazing achievement for the whole playing squad, coaching team and parents. We had a really nasty bug going through half of the boys last week so preparation was not great but the desire, determination and overall teamwork of this very talented group of players is outstanding.”
