York Women played Selby Women on Sunday in bright sunshine with a good crowd in attendance. The game was expected to be tough as York had lost the game earlier in the season at Selby. To make the challenge harder, late availability meant York would be starting with 14 players whilst Selby were at full strength.
The opening 15 minutes were a cagey affair with Selby trying to use the width of the pitch but being stifled by a stern York defence. Turnovers were aplenty for both sides but slowly York started to find their feet and build confidence running in phases to challenge the Selby defence with some strong runs.
The scoring was opened by Selby but York fought back quickly and half time was reached with the scores level.
The second half saw York play with increased confidence forcing Selby into errors. This backed by some ferocious defence and try saving tackles gave York the chance to pull away. Selby closed the gap with 5 minutes to go and with legs tiring York held on to secure the win.
A fantastic effort which was hugely celebrated by the team.
